Q: Tell us about your wedding! What was the inspiration behind your day? Did you have a specific theme, style or color palette? Did you incorporate any cultural or religious traditions in any part of your day?
A: The goal of our wedding day was to have a small and intimate ceremony with only our closest family and friends. Our original big wedding was postponed due to coronavirus but we knew that couldn’t stop us from saying I do!
Q: Let's talk wedding decor. How did you decorate your space for the ceremony and the reception? Was any part of the decor DIY?
A: Our wedding decor was very low key. Since this wedding was a backyard wedding, we set up a small ceremony space next to our arch outside and a tent for the small reception we had afterwards.
Q: What were the florals like in your wedding? Did you use flowers in any of your design elements like the bridal bouquets, centerpieces or ceremony backdrop? Did they play an important part in the overall style of your wedding?
A: My florals were done by an amazing company by the name of Whisper & Brook Flower co. Their work is so impressive and just stunning. They were set to do so many beautiful florals for our large wedding. Even though this wedding was smaller scaled, I knew I had to have some kind of florals. Stephanie made my visions come to life and really put time and effort into getting me the peonies I had to have! And of course the theme of the flowers had to be pink.
Q: Did you personalize the day in any way (food trucks, guest entertainment etc.)? What were some of your favorite parts of your wedding?
A: We kept our backyard wedding very simple and saved other things for the big wedding. But one thing that we did personalize was our wedding vows which was so special. Looking back on it I’m so thankful we decided to write them ourselves because it is something I will always cherish.
Q: Let's talk fashion. How did you both choose your wedding day look? Describe the looks in detail.
A: My dress was a last minute second dress for our backyard wedding. I absolutely loved my original dress but I couldn’t imagine getting it dirty outside and wanted it to be in great shape for the big wedding. My second dress was from BHLDN and it was perfect for the occasion. It was light and airy for summer time but still made me feel like a princess. For the groom, we had him in a suite which didn’t last long due to the august heat. We both wanted this backyard wedding to feel real and special so we wore full on wedding attire.
Q: How did you meet? Tell us about the proposal.
A: Keith and I met at Morristown Medical Center. Keith was a security guard at the hospital and I was a technician on the mother/baby unit. The rest is history! Our proposal took place on a mountain with a beautiful view. Keith surprised me after dinner while we were taking in the scenery. When I turned around he was on one knee! I loved how private he kept our proposal, I will always remember it!
Q: What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day?
A: The most anticipated moment was probably the “I do’s”. We were both very eager and excited that the day had finally come. We had waited for this day for so long already and both of us could not imagine putting it off any longer, even given the circumstances. Another special moment was that I got to get married outside of my childhood home which not many people can say.
Q: Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that you'd like to share with other couples planning their day?
A: I would say knowing what I do now, don’t feel pressured to have this huge glamorous wedding. If that’s what you want then go for it but if not, weddings can feel even more special when they are small and intimate. At the end of the day it’s about the two of you and when the wedding day comes, that’s all you will be thinking about anyway!
