1. Tell us about your wedding! What was the inspiration behind your day? Did you have a specific theme, style or color palette? Did you incorporate any cultural or religious traditions in any part of your day?
We wanted a very simple but elegant feeling for our wedding. We had a lot of greenery, and candles and soft lighting. The industrial/rustic vibe of the venue also added such a beautiful element to our overall styling of the wedding.
2. Let's talk wedding decor. How did you decorate your space for the ceremony and the reception? Was any part of the decor DIY?
Almost all of the decor was DIY, basically Janine’s Pinterest board coming to life. Our amazing wedding coordinator did an incredible job with putting together all of our design elements.
3. What were the florals like in your wedding? Did you use flowers in any of your design elements like the bridal bouquets, centerpieces or ceremony backdrop? Did they play an important part in the overall style of your wedding?
We had a great deal of real and fake greenery for most of the floral elements. The bridesmaids and brides bouquets were the only other floral elements for the wedding. The greenery elements were most important to Janine, the bouquets ended up being a pretty last minute detail.
4. Did you personalize the day in any way (food trucks, guest entertainment etc.)? What were some of your favorite parts of your wedding?
Our wedding day was truly a dream come true! In light of everything going on in the world and safety precautions we had to last minute cut our wedding guest list in half. We were so worried about the day not being as special not being able to have all of our friends and family there. In the end it was the perfect amount of people for such a beautiful and intimate day.
5. Let's talk fashion. How did you both choose your wedding day look? Describe the looks in detail.
Nelson choose a classic black tux for his wedding day look, complete with a pair of gold studded loafers. Janine had a off the shoulder champagne colored dress with cascading lace appliqué details throughout the dress.
6. How did you meet? Tell us about the proposal.
We met when we were 17 and 18, while Janine was visiting Nelsons church at the time. Nelson took Janine to the neighborhood that she grew up in New York, and they walked through so many childhood memories of hers. We then went out to eat, and after Nelson took Janine back to the house that she grew up in. In front of her childhood home, one of her favorite places in the world, Nelson got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. It was beautiful and intimate, much like their wedding day.
7. What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day?
Our wedding ceremony was highly anticipated for both of us. A truly special moment was our exchange of vows during the ceremony.
8. Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that you'd like to share with other couples planning their day?
Enjoy all the moments you can! All the small details you will stress over while planning the wedding will seem so small on your special day when you are so excited to finally be married. Also, dont be afraid to ask your loved ones for help when you feel overwhelmed!
